My 1st official post is HERE, AHHHH!!!! Thank you guys so much for being here! Ok, let’s get into it. The girls and I LOVE this little corner in their room. All of us for the reason of the books but also for me, for the fact that I love to decorate this spot for every holiday and it makes me so happy. I added some of our favorite Black history, Valentine’s and self love books in anticipation for February, which is somehow next week!
I’m going to link all the books below but I would love just to encourage you all. Purchasing a large number of books all at once is STUPID expensive and it just wouldn’t be fair for me to pretend they aren’t. I will be very upfront in telling you that we have a partnership with a book company that has grown our book collection to a pretty large collection. With that said, I still purchase books and started this collection before the free books started rolling in. We get ones that we REALLY REALLY want or that I feel are super important for my girls to have first, and then work our way from there.
Rome was not built in a day and neither will your book stash. Take your time and do what feels right for your family. Books are great gifts so asking family and friends to give certain books instead of toys can also be a great way to build your collection fast. I’ve also always loved the idea of giving books to parents to be at baby showers instead of cards.
My FAVORITE Black History books are from the Little Leaders series.
The other books on our shelves are listed and linked below.
- Porcupine Cupid
- The Power of Her Pen
- Lift As You Climb (The Story of Ella Baker)
- My Creepy Valentine
- Love Is
- In My Heart: A Book of Feelings
- Counting the Stars (The Story of Katherine Johnson)
- Bunheads: Misty Copeland
- I Am Enough
Our bookshelves are from ikea and linked here. I keep saying this but I really need to get the larger ones to go across the entire wall. I started with the smaller ones when we first began our book collection because I didn’t want the larger shelves to look so bare. As our library has grown, I think it’s high time to get the longer ones.
* And also because I love design tips. If you start off with the larger shelves and don’t have enough books to fill it out just yet, you can always put other items on your shelf like a framed print or picture that will take up space. The shelves are actually made for pictures and not books so it is perfect for adding frames.
