I had the hardest time deciding on what to do with this room since we first moved in. The room is large and spacious but lacks a lot of sunlight. The walls were beige and it was really lacking any personality but instead of making it over and regretting the decision a month later, I waited. My promises of a room makeover was running out of time and it was time to deliver.

Since wallpaper was not an option (or a too expensive one) for our textured walls, painting what I wanted was going to have to do. Because traveling is our favorite thing to do as a family I wanted to paint the skyline of a place we have visited. A mural of Lisbon, Portugal was what I landed on. My inspiration came from a wallpaper of Paris drawn in a childlike resemblance. I knew it was exactly what I wanted to recreate. So, I went in search for a Lisbon skyline on Pinterest and found the perfect one to mimic.

I first painted the entire room in a white that is all throughout our house and on the outside, Alabaster by Sherwin Williams. I then started with an outline in pencil and then painted the outline in gray. I went back in with the colors. Overall the painting part took about 2 weeks.

We had the teal version of this fan in Minka’s nursery in Denver
The hanging chair was the finishing touch to the room

Bookshelves/ Swinging chair/ Curtains/ Read Me A Story sign/ Pillow/ Ceiling Fan

*Without a doubt this chair was a SPLURGE but I was so in love with it and once I decided this room needed a hanging chair, I couldn’t find anything I loved more than this one! Honestly, I feel like I should have put it somewhere where we all could enjoy it but for our next FOREVER home I have a sneaky suspicion this will be moved to a place Mommy can enjoy it! Hanging it was a bit weird because the website for it provides absolutely NO instructions for its hanging but we used this kit and Tj was able to figure out how to tie the rope.

Bunk Beds/ Night Stand/ Rug

The bunk beds with the slide was undoubtedly the right move! The girls LOVE this bed and think it’s the coolest thing ever!

Glitter Heart Wall Pockets/ Cuddle & Kind Dolls/ Alarm Clock/ Nightlight/ Woven Basket

This little section has got to be my favorite part. For so many reasons, this building in the background, their Cuddle & Kind dolls all in one place, and the cutest glitter heart wall acrylics EVER!

Paper boxes/ Kind Smart Brave Print/ Harper Iman Dolls/ Globe knobs

Mirror/ Wall Hook

Though this room took much longer to tackle than I would have imagined, I am so happy I waited and gave it some real time and thought. The girls love their room so much and it feels complete!! For fun, here are some photos of the girls in Portugal from this past November.

Until next time, Leah <3

  1. Leah!!! This is such a gorgeous and truly one of a kind space for the girls. The mural alone is so beautiful but all the personal details (and that chair!) 😭💛 So so well done!
