The last stop on our dream of a vacation to Greece is the island of Mykonos. Mykonos is known as the party island and we quickly found out why. We were told by lots of people that we had made our plans backwards and that Mykonos should have come before Santorini, we also quickly understood why. We stayed for four days!

We were excited to find how different these islands were from each other. It was nothing like Santorini and the vibe was completely different. The streets are pristine white and I immediately felt the need to frolic!!

Our Travel to Mykonos

We took the speed ferry from Santorini to Mykonos. The ferry was 2.5 hours long but honestly seemed much faster. We were surprised by how many empty seats there were. There seemed to be a lot more people boarding but once inside, there was plenty of space to spread out. The price of the one ticket was about 70 Euros. To get more details on this and other travel options, I HIGHLY suggest heading over to Santorini Dave, his link is here. Tj planned most of our trip from this guy!

Our hotel was not like the one in Santorini, that’s really all I can say! We stayed at the Belvedere Hotel. The service was nothing like we had just experienced so I think we were a little disappointed but it was a super hard act to follow. We had a issue with getting the right room on time and the room with the correct view. The mini refrigerator was like a vault for how much they were charging for drinks. Like 10 more Euros than what they cost in the little mini marts on the island, ridiculous. Our power went off in the room and we had to wait for maintenance to come and mess with the breaker. Overall the property was nice and room was cool but we were just comparing and we shouldn’t have done Santorini first, LOL!!!

Getting around Mykonos

We only needed a Taxi from the port to the hotel and from the hotel to the airport. The cost of the ride from the port was 15 Euro. The taxi ride to the airport was about 30 Euros. We walked the majority of our time here with the exception of heading to the beach. There is a public bus that takes people around the island and so we rode the bus to the beach, it was the cheapest option. The last bus runs until about 11pm so if you miss it, you’ll have to get a taxi.

Outfit Planning for Mykonons

ALL THE BEACH WEAR!!! One swim suit was not enough! I thought we might only head to the beach once but it was so beautiful, we had to visit twice. You can make Mykonos a full on beach vacation with the amount of beach clubs there are on the island. I wore dinner options that were shorter than the flowy dresses I wore in Santorini because I knew sand and water may be involved in some of our dining locations.

Things to do

Hit the beach! This water….

The pictures do it NO justice! We ended up catching the bus to Platis Gialos beach. Now if you follow me you also know that we HIKED to several other beaches from this point. I’d suggest it if you aren’t sure where you want to stop or just to see what all the beaches have to offer. The views are incredible but Lord was it hot!

The day beach clubs were really cool. We stopped at a few of them to check out the vibe and grab a drink. I’ll link a page here that will give you all the details on the beach clubs. We stopped at SantAnna, which was so so cute but expensive to get a bed at. A lot of these places charge for not only a bed or lounge area but also a minimum to spend on drinks. Tj and I were NOT about to pay these prices but it would have made more sense if we had gone with a group of friends.

This was at Branco Mykonos, another super cute spot!!

Found this cute spot called Pinky Beach on our hike

On our actual anniversary, nothing went as planned but we spent the entire day and night out at the beach! These are some of the only pictures I got from the day, 11 years <3

Visit the windmills

I wish I could tell you all about these windmills and the history of them. All I really know is that they were used at one point, you’re welcome! They are huge and beautiful and a great spot for a photo op!

Currently sold out but waitlist for Mocha jumpsuit here

Visit and eat in Little Venice

There are so many places to eat and drink in this area. Among this small little stretch there are so many bars to grab a drink. At night, it is definitely a different scene as this little strip comes to life. Some of our favorites spots were Scarpa Bar, Sunset Taverna (for food) and Breeze Cocktail Bar. This drink below is the Breeze drink from Breeze and I am determined to learn how to make passion fruit whipped cream, SO GOOD!!!!

Get lost….

By just getting lost we found so much. A part of the island we would have never seen, the old port, where we found a beautiful church, amazing gelato and more gorgeous water views.

We also found the Pinterest famous restaurant Kastro’s that has an alley leading straight to the water. I had forgotten all about it until we got lost and found it on a random walk. We tried making reservations but they were booked up for a week. There was no number to call and check on availability so we came back that same night just to see and they actually got us in. It was such a dreamy night and a great makeup for missing our other dinner plans for our anniversary the night before.

Covid testing on the way out!

So, the US is still requiring those who are coming from out of the country to be covid tested within 3 days of returning. Our hotel gave us the option to have someone come to the hotel and test us but it would cost us 150 Euros per person, ummm….no! Tj googled a place on the island and we were able to be swabbed there for about 20 Euros each. The place was Mykoniatikh Hygeia. We picked up our results the following day.

Overall, we loved Mykonos! It was a really great experience and so different from the rest of our trip. If you are a big shopper, this island will definitely need to be on your list as it has so many high end stores to choose from. If you were to ask me my favorite of the three places, I’d say Santorini hands down but I am so happy we got to explore all three. It felt like a really well rounded trip and experience.

This vacation was not cheap, like not even a little bit. To be realist, I’d budget about 10k. I know there are ways to do it much more affordably, starting with where you stay. It is definitely a once in a lifetime and we’d do it all over again. It was a great makeup for the 10 year trip we missed last year due to covid. Not all of the vacations we take are this expensive but this one was special!! Don’t let Tj’s face fool you, he was happy with the trip too! LOL!

Thanks for a great time Greece!!!! I hope these blog posts helped! Let me know if you have questions, I’d be happy to answer.
